Around the world, the lives of hundreds of thousands of people are affected by skin disfiguring illnesses and damage such as burns, wounds and skin cancer. RAFT is here to help them.
RAFT stands for the Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust. We are an independant registered charity carrying out pioneering research into practical and affordable ways to save and repair skin.
RAFT is mainly funded by charitable donations. In order to continue our vital work, we rely on support and help from people like you.
Case study
Are you a future scientist?
RAFT is keen to support work experience students who are interested in pursuing a career within the science or charitable sector. Over the past year we have been delighted to welcome these enthusiastic volunteers, and hope to have provided them with a broader understanding of the vital research and work that we do.
“As an A level student of biology and chemistry I was eager to see real science in action, so I was very pleased to have been offered ‘work experience’ during the summer. During my time at RAFT I was able to see the developments made in research for repairing skin injuries; and I could observe and participate in some of the experiments used to develop the biological skin ‘smart matrix’. The week I spent at the RAFT institute has inspired me to apply for a bioscience course at university where I will be able to use the skills gained from my experience at RAFT. I hope that one day I too may be involved in such worthwhile research.”
