Recent Experiments at RAFT

Posted 09/02/10
  • Melanin synthesis in the presence of protein and/or DNA. This will be required for further ESR experiments on the UVA irradiation on DNA and the role of melanin.
  • Irradiation of DNA in the presence of synthetic melanin to study the role of melanin in DNA damage from UVA light.
  • 3 different ESR experiments with extracts of mitochondria from two melanoma cell lines to understand the effects of UVA light on free radical production in mitochondria.
  • 1 experiment studying effects the of UVA irradiation on cells at different growth stages, these experiments are important to better understand processes in the UVA irradiated skin cells and to explain our previous results.
  • Culturing normal melanocytes, which are very slow growing, to prepare to irradiate them with UVA.
