Jonathan Knowles is Professor of Biomaterials Science at University College London and his main research interests fall into the category of degradable, but range from inorganic degradable glasses, through thermoplastic degradable polymers to light curable degradable polymers. He also has a major interest and expertise in determination of mechanical properties of materials and X-ray diffraction as an analytical capability. Much of this work has been in collaboration with a number of research groups throughout the world, but In particular a long and close collaboration with Dankook University, where he has a visiting position. His work has been funded by a range of national and international funding bodies, including EPSRC, BBSRC, MRC and the EU. During his research career, he has published nearly 400 papers, which have gained well over 22,000 citations. He is also editor in chief of two journals, the Journal of Biomaterials Applications and the Journal of Tissue Engineering. His work career was recognised recently by being elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers
