British scientist specialising in solar power conversion. She studied chemistry at St Anne’s College, Oxford, and physical chemistry at Imperial College London, before becoming a Cambridge University lecturer. From 1988 to 2000 she was Chair of the National Energy Foundation and is now its President. She was Chair of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, 2002-2012, and a founder director of Cambridge University Health Partners, 2009-2012. She is currently Chair of the Science Museum Group, Chair of Imperial College Health Partners’ Advisory Council and a non-executive director of the Hydrodec Group plc.
In 2012, Dame Mary was appointed DBE for services to the NHS.
Dame Mary became a Patron in June 2013.
